COMMUNITY PROFILE

We are located in the southwestern section of Monroe County in Upstate New York. First established in 1821 as the Town of "Inverness," we changed our name later that same year to "Wheatland" to show the pride we had in our award winning wheat.

Today we show our pride as the small jewel of Monroe County. Just 11 miles south of Rochester, our residents can enjoy the culture and the services of a metropolitan area, and yet still live in a rural and agricultural setting. It's a great place to raise a family, do business or visit and enjoy our outdoor resources and rich history.

Wheatland is the proud home of the Genesee Country Museum, where Upstate New York history comes alive. If fishing is your sport, the Oatka Creek is known throughout New York State as one of the finest trout streams. Tubing on the Oatka is also fast becoming a favorite of locals! Hiking your pleasure? The Genesee Valley Greenway comes right through Wheatland. You can hike north to Lake Ontario or South to Letchworth State Park.

Stop by our library in Scottsville, where you can learn about our history in the Cox room. Take your family camping at Gravel Ponds, enjoy the natural surroundings in the Oatka Park, shop our specialty shops or stay at a Bed and Breakfast in Mumford or Scottsville. At Christmas time there is no better place in Monroe County than Stokoe's Christmas Tree Farm to experience the holiday season.

We are a Community with Pride, come share in it soon!
