The New York State Legislature passed legislation - S.8805/A.6679B - to ensure internet access for more New Yorkers earlier this year, but the Governor must sign it before the end of the month for it to become law. This legislation aiming to increase access to high-speed broadband service across the state would help to revitalize rural communities, combat social isolation, expand telemedicine services, and improve the quality of life of all New Yorkers.
Expanding high-speed internet (also known as broadband) and fiber optic services in New York is vitally important. As so many New Yorkers are now working from home, a lack of reliable internet access can make it extremely difficult for people to keep or obtain a job.
