Important Update
The Town Board has increased the Persons with Disabilities Tax Exemption income limit from 37,400 to 58,400, allowing more disabled homeowners to qualify.
Persons with Disabilities Tax Exemption Eligibility
You may qualify for Person with Disabilities Tax Exemption if you meet all the following requirements:
· To qualify, the applicant must have physical or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activities, as defined by New York State law. Proof of disability may include eligibility for Social Security Administration (SSA) award letter, or disability benefits from the U.S. Postal Service, or Railroad Retirement Board disability letter, or State Certificate for the blind.
· Be owned-occupied by a person with a disability, as defined by state law, and used as the applicant’s primary residence, or the exemption may be granted to property occupied by a tenant with a disability under a life-interest lease, or a person with a disability whose primary residence is in a special needs trust.
· Your combined household income (owners and spouses), based on your 2024 Federal Adjusted Gross Income, is under 58,400 for properties in the Town of Wheatland.
Application Deadline
A completed application must be submitted to the Town Assessor’s no later than March1, 2026.
